Royal Caribbeans Entertainment aboard the Oasis of the Seas
|
|
Royal Caribbean's Oasis of the Seas Entertainment
Oasis of the Seas sleeps 6400 passengers when full. However, the main showroom only seats 1300. So how will the Oasis of the Seas handle all 6400 passengers seeing the show? Will they run 4 evening shows each day?
"Unlike other cruise lines, where space is a limitation, and public rooms are used for more than one type of activity, and because of the size of the Oasis of the Seas they will have dedicated space to a comedy club, a Jazz club, dance club and main show room. All the entertainment choices will be going on at the same time.
Vicki Freed, senior VP of Royal Caribbean, says the main production show will be performed three or four times during a cruise, with guests using electronic tickets via their Seapass card. "The guests can choose the performance that fits best in their schedule," says Freed. "You may recall that the Norway used to have the main production show on four times."

| Royal Caribbean International targets Asia Royal Caribbean International announced a return to Asia in 2007 in what president Adam Goldstein called ‘a first step in a long-term plan that will define cruising in the region.’ RCI will deploy the
2,435-passenger Rhapsody of the Seas from Singapore, Hong Kong and Shanghai on cruises targeting regional source markets.
‘The introduction of Rhapsody of the Seas into Asia, together with our previously announced deployments of ships to South America and the Dominican Republic are all part of the company's strategy of international business development and expansion into emerging and high-growth markets,’ Goldstein said.
‘We have had the pleasure of hosting thousands of satisfied Asian guests on board our vessels over the past several years and intend to bring to Asia all of the elements and the characteristics of our style of cruising that have made our brand globally recognized as an award-winning vacation experience,’ Goldstein added.
The RCI president expressed confidence that the Asian market and what he called ‘the Pan Asia regions in general’ have tremendous growth potential. He also said there is a heightened interest in travel to Asia from India, Australia, New Zealand and the Middle East ‘which we predict will become strong secondary source markets.’
Goldstein acknowledged governmental authorities, port authorities and tourism boards in Singapore, Hong Kong and Shanghai for their encouragement 'that helped us to make this exciting decision.’
Rhapsody of the Seas will debut Dec. 10, 2007, in Singapore with a series of sailings that will call on Malaysia and Thailand. Then Rhapsody moves to Hong Kong, arriving in time for the Chinese New Year holiday season, with itineraries calling at ports in Taiwan and Japan, and Sanya, Hainan Island. Repositioning to Shanghai, Rhapsody will visit destinations in Japan and Korea.
Additional details will be released by mid-October.
MyGreatTrip.com Info@MyGreatTrip.com | Royal Caribbean to Upgrade Bedding Fleetwide Royal Caribbean International will install new beds on its ships fleetwide by May 2007. The upgraded bed frames, mattresses and linens will debut on the Freedom of the Seas when it joins the fleet in May. "This is an extreme makeover of our stateroom experience," Royal Caribbean President Adam Goldstein said Monday in Miami Beach. He made the announcement while dressed in satin pajamas at a trendy nightclub called Bed -- a restaurant and lounge that serves patrons who recline in beds scattered with cushions. Royal Caribbean's upgraded beds will feature nine-inch-thick mattresses with two-inch-thick pillow tops, 220-thread-count sheets, a duvet, micro-fiber pillows and bed skirts. In addition, pillow tops will be used to close the gap formed when two twin beds are pushed together to create a queen-size bed, Goldstein said. Royal Caribbean's seven-figure investment keeps it on par with other cruise lines that are investing in upgraded bedding, including Carnival Cruise Lines and Holland America Line. The announcement was made on the eve of the Seatrade Cruise Shipping Convention, the cruise industry's largest international conference held annually in Miami Beach.
MyGreatTrip.com 1-877-626-3409 | Royal Caribbean Orders Giant Cruise Ship OSLO, Norway — Royal Caribbean International has ordered the world's largest and most expensive cruise ship, the Aker Yards shipbuilding group said Monday.
The contract price for the new ship, designated Project Genesis, is euro900 million _ or about US$1 billion _ making it "the most valuable ship ever ordered in the history of commercial shipbuilding," the Oslo-based group said in a statement.
The company said the 360-meter (1,181-foot) ship will have a capacity of 5,400 passengers. Its size will exceed by 43 percent Aker's "Freedom of the Seas," which is to be the world's largest cruise ship when it is delivered to Royal Caribbean in April.
The newly ordered ship is to be delivered in late 2009 after its construction at one of the group's Finnish yards, Aker Yards said.
The contract, which is contingent on final approval of financing, includes an option for a second ship.
Aker Yards said it has been building cruise ships for Miami-based Royal Caribbean for 35 years.
Aker Yards shares rose almost 6 percent to 347 kroner (US$52.47; euro43.37) in morning trading on the Oslo stock exchange.
Aker Yards, which is Europe's largest shipbuilder, employs about 13,000 people at 13 shipyards in Norway, Finland, Germany, Romania and Brazil.

| Popular Radiance-Class Ship to Spend the Fall of 2006 Cruising Canadian Coast |
|
MIAMI, November 17, 2005 - Royal Caribbean International has revised Jewel of the Seas' 2006 itinerary to include a series of seven-night Canada/New England sailings roundtrip from Boston, Massachusetts. The 2,100-guest Jewel of the Seas, previously scheduled to sail 10-night Bermuda/Caribbean itineraries, will be the only Royal Caribbean ship offering Canada/New England itineraries in the fall of 2006.
"Our guests' response to our Canada/New England itineraries last year was tremendous," said Adam Goldstein, president of Royal Caribbean International. "We felt it was important to offer our guests the opportunity to see the beauty of this area while at the same time enjoying the wonderful amenities and service onboard Jewel."
Following a 12-night transatlantic cruise departing from Harwich, England, on September 11, 2006, Jewel of the Seas will sail roundtrip from Boston, with calls to Martha's Vineyard, Mass.; Portland and Bar Harbor, Maine; Saint John, New Brunswick; and Halifax, Nova Scotia.
On October 31, 2006, Jewel will sail her scheduled 12-night repositioning cruise from Boston to Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., where she will embark on a series of eight- and six-night Eastern/Western Caribbean itineraries.
With nearly three acres of exterior glass, Jewel offers an ideal way to view fall foliage along the New England and Canadian coastline. Jewel also sparkles with ocean-facing glass elevators and floor-to-ceiling windows in most public areas, and has the highest percentage of balcony staterooms in Royal Caribbean's fleet. Throughout the ship, guests will discover the ship also shines in its entertainment, dining, activities and art offerings.
Guests who have been affected by the change in itineraries should contact their travel agent.
